As part of the SALTOpower project, five members of the University of Évora team participated in a week-long mobility program at the DLR in Germany. The initiative took place from June 24 to July 5, providing a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange and the strengthening of international collaborations.
Diogo Canavarro, a team member, highlighted the significance of this mobility: “In the framework of SALTOpower project I carried out a mobility, between 26-28 of June 2024, to the DLR-Institute for Future Fuels in Cologne, Germany. During these days, I had the opportunity not only to attend to the Cologne Solar Colloquium 2024, but also to discuss with the DLR colleagues the activities being carried out by the AOHTP (Advanced Optics and High-Temperature Processes) unit, present projects and activities and synergies for future collaborations between the two groups, namely through the development on join-proposals to HEurope programme. I also had the opportunity to visit the technical facilities related with the production of solar fuels.”
Radia AIT EL CADI, another team member, also shared her experience: “I carried out a mobility period from June 25 to July 5, 2024, at the DLR Institute of Solar Research in Germany. Over these 9 days, I had the opportunity to discuss ongoing activities of the STSA unit with DLR colleagues. We explored current projects, identified potential areas for future collaboration, and discussed the development of joint proposals and publications. We also delved into technical aspects related to the commissioning and experimental testing procedures, challenges in MS-TES systems, applications of MS-based Carnot batteries, and suitable MS-based configurations for integrating renewable energy sources.
Additionally, I attended the Cologne Solar Colloquium 2024 and visited the three molten salt TT labs in Stuttgart. I participated in project meetings and FTS#2, covering topics of MS handling, and the control and monitoring of the EMSP facility.”
